Over the past few months, the future has been uncertain for Cincinnati Bengals star running back Joe Mixon, who has dealt with some off-the-field issues and uncertainty about whether the team wanted to keep him around for the 2023 NFL season.
On Friday, Mixon’s fate for the 2023 campaign became much clearer, with the team and player seeing eye-to-eye on a restructured contract securing his place on the squad for the upcoming season.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Bengals and Mixon are finalizing the new deal, and the speculation about his future in Cincinnati can officially end, which is great news for Cincinnati and its run game.

In 14 regular-season games for the Bengals last season, Mixon rushed for 814 yards and seven touchdowns on 210 carries.
Although this was considered a bit of a down year compared to the 2021 campaign, in which he had career-high numbers across the board, Mixon is still a very productive back when healthy and on the field for Cincinnati.
Now that Mixon is officially back in the fold for Cincinnati, the Bengals have one of the most potent offenses in the NFL, with superstar quarterback Joe Burrow leading the way along with Ja’Marr Chase downfield and the veteran back coming out of the backfield.
The Bengals are expected to be a Super Bowl title contender once again but will have their work cut out for them in one of the toughest divisions in football in the AFC North as well as in the AFC in general, with the league being lopsided in terms of talented squads in 2023.
