The Denver Broncos couldn’t get anything going on Sunday.

The Miami Dolphins never took their foot off the gas and kept pushing and pounding en route to a 70-20 win.

It was the second-most points scored in a single game in NFL history, and perhaps the most lopsided and humiliating loss in franchise history.

However, when asked about it, HC Sean Payton chose to take a pragmatic approach.

He claimed it was just a ‘perfect storm’ that led to this unfortunate outcome, praising the Dolphins’ explosive offense and pretty much stating that there wasn’t a lot they could do to stop them (via ProFootbalTalk).

“I think what came about Sunday was one of those perfect storms where we struggled in a lot of areas,” Payton said.

Of course, this isn’t what one would expect to hear from a hard-nosed competitor and veteran like Payton, but it might be the most honest answer.

Truth be told, it’s not like the Dolphins would put up 70 points against them in every game; it just happened.

Losing by 50 points is something no team can afford, and it could be a massive hit for team morale.

On the flip side, it might also be just what they needed to turn things around and get over the hump.

If that kind of loss doesn’t motivate a player, then nothing will.

The Broncos now have a home date with the Chicago Bears, who will also look to get their first win of the season.

That gives them a prime opportunity to right the ship once and for all, and all it takes is a string of good performances to get back on track.
